Updated Traditional Red And Green Christmas Living Room
Over twenty-five bloggers sharing their homes decked out for Christmas.
I’ve decorated my home for Christmas with lots of different color themes over the twelve Christmases that I’ve been blogging, but this year’s is my favorite!

I’ve returned to my traditional red and green Christmas roots, but in a fresh new way!
Welcome to the annual Christmas homes tour, hosted by Marty from A Stroll Thru Life. If you’re coming over from Kate’s house at Southern Home And Hospitality, welcome to Worthing Court!
Kate is a personal friend of mine, so I’m glad we’re on tour together. Isn’t her home lovely?
My Christmas tree is located where it’s visible as soon as you come to front door, so it’s always the star of the show. I usually spend several days working on it off and on.
This year it’s bedecked with lots of red and green ornaments and touches of gold.
I always like to start with my topper when decorating a Christmas tree. For me, it sets the tone and provides me with the direction for the rest of the tree.
This year’s topper is a mix of oversized ornaments, placed opposite one another on the diagonal, a few red velvet oversized berry picks and a mix of ribbons. Easy to do, but still makes quite the statement!
From the topper, I move onto adding large ornaments and/or unexpected elements, then onto smaller ornaments and so on.
I place any feature ornaments where they can best be seen next and then it’s time for ribbon and picks.
The ribbon is a fabulous green with red stripe, that I purchased HERE. It’s backed with luxe gold and looks so pretty paired with vintage brass ornaments that I inherited from my mom. She collected them from the Danbury Mint back in the 80’s.
They are truly special ornaments to me, so I placed them on branch tips so that they will easily be seen and appreciated.
TIP: Want to learn how trained designers decorate a Christmas tree? Read THIS POST, which will take you through the process step-by-step.
I actually used four different ribbons on this year’s Christmas tree. In addition to the green with red stripe, I also used a 2′ wide solid red velvet and a 2″ wide tartan plaid. A 1″ red velvet was used to add fun bows around different parts of the tree as a finishing touch.
Want to ramp up your Christmas decor without buying more decorations? Wrap your presents to coordinate with your tree! I’ve done it for years and it makes such a difference.
Yes, I’ve used several different patterns of wrapping paper, but it all works well together because it’s Christmas plaid!
The fireplace is located right next to our tree, so I always decorate it as if it’s an extension of the tree.
The garland is made up of three different ones wired together. The base is an very inexpensive flocked garland, that I doubled up, with two other garlands wired to it.
I then added some of the same picks that I used in the tree to the garland to really tie it all together.
The red mercury glass Christmas trees were purchased on major sale and are such a fun addition this year! I already have plans for how I want to use them next year. The large one is can be found HERE and the smaller one HERE.
A flocked wreath works perfectly on my round mirror and how fun and unexpected are the ornaments that are dangling from some of the same ribbon that I used on the tree?
It’s easy to decorate for Christmas when you just add seasonal touches to your existing decorations, which is what I’ve done on the coffee table.
Coffee table books make a great base for holding special candles and a bowl of frosted cranberries.
Last, but not least, let me share an early Christmas present with you.
On a recent day date with the hubs, I ran across THIS FITZ & FLOYD SANTA and was totally smitten. He’s large and in charge and I love him!
I oohed and aahed over him for quite a while at the store and into the evening after we came home, but couldn’t bring myself to spend the money. The hubs scored major brownie points when he came home with him the next day!
Even though he was also on major sale, he’s still an investment, but I will use him for years to come and then pass him to my daughter one day.
Thank you for stopping by today. I hope you’ve enjoyed this peek into my Christmas living room. If you haven’t already, stop over at A Stroll Thru Life and check out Marty’s lovely decorations.
And come back every day this week for more Christmas decorating ideas!

Stunning! I call that the Narnia tree as in like a fairytale. I returned to traditional red and green too some years back. And I mix in some of the everyday blue Canton ware too. Love your mom’s ornaments, we showcase my mother in law’s handmade beaded ones. Lovely tour.
Wow, that tree is amazing and so beautiful. I love all the ribbon and the topper is stunning. Your mantel decor coordinates so beautifully too and looks like your tree. You definitely create some stunning trees each year and I think this is one of my favorites. Very traditional and perfect for the season. I think your hubby gets double points for that Santa, he is gorgeous. Thanks so much or joining the tour again this season. Your home is such a thrill to tour and always so beautifully decorated.
Suzy, you are the queen of Christmas tree decorating! Oh, I love your tree and the colors this year! I guess red is back!!!! And it looks beautiful on your tree. That topper is over the top (pun intended). You are one talented lady! Your sense of color and style shines in your Christmas decor this year. Merry Christmas, friend! xo
I can’t wait every year to see how you decorate your trees because they are always masterpieces. And this red and green one is jaw dropping gorgeous!! I pinned this one for inspiration immediately. With the popularity of traditional red and green those pictures are sure to go viral on Pinterest! And the mantel is also stunning this year. I love how full it is and “dripping” off of the front. And the fun touch of ornaments on the mirror. You deserve that beautiful Santa and I’m sure Daryl is enjoying his praise for bringing it home. Merry Christmas my dear friend!!
Wow, so gorgeous! Your tree is bursting with color and I love it – so traditional for Christmas…or should I say, “updated” traditional. I’m sure you smile every time you walk in there. Thanks for sharing!
Shelley
Love your red, green, gold and tartan tree. It is timeless and just lovely! Beautiful tree, my favorite style. Enjoyed your directions on timing the tree; very helpful.
Your traditional Christmas decor is so beautiful Suzy. The ribbon and topper on the Christmas tree are so pretty. Your mantel decor is just as gorgeous. So inspiring. Happy Holidays!
Stunning tree! I love how you incorporated different ribbons. Also the mix and match presents under the tree really look beautiful!
Suzy your Christmas décor is breathtaking! I adore how you asymmetrically laid an ornament near your tree topper and the accents on the mirror wreath. Truly inspiring! It’s such a joy to be on tour with you!
Beautiful home! Love that tree and all of your colorful decor! Pinned.
Oh my, everything is SO BEAUTIFUL! I love classic red and green for Christmas, it’s just so festive and wonderful! And your tree, my goodness it’s stunning.
Saying that your Christmas tree topper makes quite a statement doesn’t seem to do it justice. It’s fantastic! You should do a video tutorial too on how to decorate a tree. No matter how hard I try, mine will never look as good as yours. It’s a Macy’s Day Parade tree! Love all of your decor and so excited to hop with you. Merry Christmas!
Suzy, your tree and Christmas decorations are over-the-top beautiful! Where is the plaid wrapping paper from? Thanks for all of your beautiful inspiration.
I’m so sorry for the delay in replying! For some reason I didn’t get a comment notification. The paper that you’re asking about came from a local store called If It’s Paper.
Wow! What a gorgeous tree and Christmas setting. Love the plaid and traditional red and green so much. The entire living room is really lovely. Merry Christmas!
I love everything about your beautiful Christmas decor. Of all the Christmas decor I’ve seen this year, yours is my favorite. You are so talented. I wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas.
Suzi, the link to the porch decor actually goes to the house decor. Thought you might want to correct it. Your home is beautiful, as always. You always coordinate everything so well.
So beautiful! Merry Christmas, my friend.
Everything looks so lovely! I adore your traditional color scheme. That big green and red ribbon really updates the looks and gives such a punch. Love your beautiful F&F Santa- that put hubby on the Nice List for sure. Merry Christmas!
Happy New Year! I’m finally getting around to a relaxing day of catching up on emails and reading my favorite blogs. Your home is so pretty and just a standout during the holidays. I love the plaids and your new Santa, especially since my name is on his list!
