5 Decorating Trends That Never Go Out Of Style

Are you someone who keeps up with the latest decorating trends? Do you think it’s all about the hottest colors or attaining the latest and greatest must-have items of the year? Nope – think again!

Every year designers release their prediction of what decorating trends we’ll be seeing in homes in the coming year. But that’s not what I’m talking about.

I don’t know anyone who has the time, energy, or budget to even try to keep up with all of that. It’s exhausting and it’s expensive!

If you do find yourself trying to ride in that boat though, I have great news for you! You can relax. Read on to see what I mean.

What’s In for 2025 and Beyond

Personal Storytelling Through Your Decor

If you want your home to be a reflection of you and your family, think of it as a place to display unique bits and pieces that spark memories or inspire your dreams.

For instance – our china cabinet turned home office cabinet is filled with all sorts of things that my husband and I have collected over time.

It kind of tells the story of us – who we are, what we love, and what we enjoy doing together.

Imagine walking into a room that’s just bursting with your personality. Every corner, every wall, tells a different story.

It’s creating a home that is deeply meaningful and uniquely yours. It’s a celebration of your journey, your life, and everything that makes you, you.

Fearless Authenticity

Now this decorating trend is one that I 1000% agree with!

Don’t allow fear to dictate your decorating decisions. You be YOU and decorate with what you love, not with what you think other people will approve of.

When you choose pieces that resonate with your heart, your home becomes a sanctuary, full of meaning and memories, rather than just another page out of a magazine.

And that’s something that never goes out of style.

Focus on Emotional Comfort

This timeless decorating trend is all about creating a home that doesn’t just look good but feels good, right down to your soul.

Imagine stepping into a room and feeling an immediate sense of peace and comfort wash over you. It’s like the room just gets you.

The colors are soothing, there’s a plush throw waiting for you on the couch, and maybe there’s a little nook by the window with a cushy armchair – your perfect spot for morning coffee or losing yourself in a good book.

Emotional comfort in decor is about personalizing your space to be your sanctuary. But it isn’t only about the senses.

Emotional comfort also means surrounding yourself with things that have meaning to you. Maybe it’s family photos that bring back happy memories or artwork that inspires you.

It’s creating a home that nurtures you, supports you, and provides a comforting backdrop to your life’s ups and downs.

In today’s fast-paced world, our homes are our retreats. They’re where we recharge, reflect, and just be ourselves. So, making sure our spaces cater to our emotional needs is super important.

Embracing the Charm of Age

In case you haven’t noticed, consignment stores, Facebook Marketplace, and thrift stores have skyrocketed in popularity.

They’ve become go-to destinations for those of us seeking pieces to add personality and charm to their homes. Not to mention that items found in those types of places are almost always more affordable (and better quality) than purchasing new.

No matter what decorating style you prefer, you can find something that works. It may take a bit of digging, but the thrill of the hunt is half the fun!

A well-worn table, a vintage lamp, or an antique mirror can tell a story that no brand-new item ever could. They add layers of interest and uniqueness, making your home feel curated rather than cookie-cutter.

It’s about building a home that not only looks good but also has a soul, a narrative, and a bit of time-traveled charm. In short, it’s about making the old new again, and loving every quirky, mismatched, story-filled piece of it!

Elevating the Everyday

I simply love the idea of turning those ordinary, everyday moments into something special and maybe even a little unexpected.

Think about it – why should luxury or beauty be reserved only for special occasions? This timeless trend says, let’s make every day a bit more magical.

So, how does this look in practice? It’s in the little things.

It’s about swapping out those plain, everyday dishes for your good china that make even a simple Tuesday night dinner feel like a feast.

Pull out your grandmother’s silver and use it! What good is it doing sitting in a cabinet waiting for a special occasion?

This trend is really about mindfulness and appreciation for the small things.

Elevating the every day is a celebration of life’s simple pleasures. It’s a reminder that you don’t need a special occasion to enjoy a bit of luxury.

By making every moment, no matter how small, a little more special, we can transform our day-to-day living from mundane to beautiful.

The One Trend That Will Always Be Out

There’s one trend that will always be out, in my book. And that’s decorating your home based on what everyone else thinks.

In its place is embracing the idea that your home should be a reflection of you, not someone else’s opinion.

The beauty of this trend is in its empowerment. It encourages confidence, creativity, and individuality in home decor.

No more second-guessing if that quirky lamp you adore is too outlandish or if your love for vibrant colors is too bold. It’s your space, your sanctuary, and it should echo your personality, quirks and all.

This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t seek inspiration or advice, but the final say should always be yours.

So, say goodbye to decorating by committee and hello to a space that’s authentically, unapologetically you.

To sum it all up, the mantra for timeless decorating trends is: trust your gut, decorate with heart, and let your home be a true reflection of you.

After all, when you’re confident in your decorating choices, it really shows, and that’s a style that’s always in.

  1. Most folks like their homes “fuller” than I do. Makes them happy so I’m happy for them
But even well done maximalist makes my inner compass swirl off kilter.

    1. Haha. I totlly get it! I think it’s so interesting how each of us feel about maximallism and being surrounded by stuff.

    2. I have 5 lifelong friends that come and stay with me once a year for a girls weekend and 4 of them love my home. The other gal loves being here but some of my most curated and collected rooms make her actually physically twitch! 😂 we always have to laugh. her home is lovely and streamlined.

Suzy, you are spot-on, as usual! Surround yourself with what YOU love!!

    1. Exactly! Do that and you’ll always be happy with your home. 😀

  3. Many have told us our home is like a museum, full of family history, treasures and stories. We have slept in a full size antique bed until recently we had to have it enlarged to a queen so our 11 year old weim can find a place with us. Our guests still must sleep in the full size antique bed that was a wedding gift from my parents.

  4. I couldn’t agree more with this post. I feel like this is the way I’ve always decorated and the trends have finally caught up with it. Your office looks fantastic! Looking forward to hearing more about it.

    1. I’m so glad that we’re seeing a return to pretty in the world of home decor! I’m glad to hear that you agree! I’ll do an “official” office reveal when it’s completed.

Can you provide me with the source, mfg and name of the blue grasscloth wallpaper in your dining room…..room is beautiful!!

    thanks!!

Hi, I absolutely love that wall panel with the parrots and birds. It’s breathtaking, and I drool over it each time you show a photo of your lovely living room. It gives enough of the botanical wall papers trend without having to comment to an entire room or wall. It’s just fabulous!! I am on the hunt for something like it. I like your sense of timeless tradition with lots of flair and color. You have a very comfortable stylish living space and I really enjoy your posts. Thank you for sharing your ideas and inspirations.

Opps I meant to say commit to an entire wall, not comment.

    2. Hi Carol. Thank you so much for your sweet and thoughtful comment! I’m glad to hear that you’re enjoying everything.

  7. Maximalist, minimalist, antiques, trendy???? It can all be overwhelming but I appreciate how you’ve stressed “to thine ownself be true”…… plus it is so much cheaper to steer clear of trying to keep up with the trends. It seems the trend on Monday is obsolete by Friday. I mix a lot of my traditional pieces with a few family antiques and things I love that have personal meaning. Thanks for an excellent post…and may I ask about the framed bird print at the top of your post….love it!!!! I’ve done a Google search on it but found no matches. Is it an art print that can be purchased? It has wonderful colors! Thank you so much!!!!
